We are happy to share that the NetCDA team from the University of Rostock has recently returned from an inspiring 10-day mission to Côte d’Ivoire. The main objective of this visit was to accompany a doctoral student’s final fieldwork on inselbergs around Korhogo, Boundiali, Séguéla, and Katiola. This includes a joint expedition to Mt. Niangbo, a remarkable inselberg in central Côte d’Ivoire, where plant diversity has been studied by Prof. Stefan Porembski since the 1990s and had become an important opportunity for exchanging expertise and knowledges. The positive outcomes of this mission were not restricted to fieldwork activities. Important aspects of the doctoral student’s thesis and future career perspectives were discussed, as a meeting with Prof. KOUASSI Edouard and Prof. KONÉ N’Golo (the Director and Deputy Director of the Graduate Studies Program in Climate Change and Biodiversity of the Université Félix Houphouët-Boigny) was held. This meeting was used for sharing positive experiences and challenges regarding WASCAL Batch 5, strengthening the fruitful and well-established collaboration between Germany-West Africa partners. We believe this mission underscores the commitment of NetCDA members to work in close cooperation with our West African partners to ensure mutual benefit and the success of WASCAL in climate change mitigation in Africa.
