We are pleased to announce the session ITS4.33/CLO.19: “Strengthening African-European Partnerships for Global Change Research: From Scientific Capacity to Practical Solutions” at the upcoming EGU General Assembly 2026, taking place in Vienna, Austria from 3–8 May 2026.

The session, which is organized by members of the NetCDA network, builds on ongoing collaborations to strengthen African–European partnerships in global change and environmental research. It brings together scientists, practitioners, and policymakers to discuss how collaborative, equitable partnerships between African and European institutions can drive impactful research and solutions to address global environmental change.

Across Africa, adapting to climate and environmental change requires strong scientific capacity and collaboration. This session highlights initiatives that strengthen Africa’s research capacity in environmental and climate sciences through inclusive, sustainable partnerships. We welcome contributions across the research cycle, emphasizing African leadership, equity, and initiatives advancing global goals such as the SDGs and Paris Agreement.

Convener team: Insa Otte (NetCDA), Henno Havenga, Layla Hashweh (NetCDA), Luiz Bondi (NetCDA), and Arona Diedhiou.
